How Carrier Rules work
How Carrier Rules work

Read this step-by-step guide to learn how to setp up a Rule for a Carrier

Updated over a week ago

ShippyPro always focuses on how customers can save time avoiding repetitive tasks.

That's why you can set up a rule for a specific carrier.

If you use specific carriers for specific terms (like a specific zone or so on), you can save time and avoid the rates’ comparison thanks to the setting of an automatic rule.

Once set up this rule, ShippyPro will automatically show only the rate of that carrier during the creation of the Shipping Label!

1. How it works ⚙️

From Carriers click on Set rules for carriers on the right side of the page.

A window will open, where it is possible to add one rule next to every carrier.

Note: you need to add at least one nation for the rule to be applied.

The conditions on which these rules are based are:

  • Destination country

For example, if you want to use only this carrier for shipments in a specific country or countries.

Note: that this field must not be blank.

You can either type the country or click on the zones to include a large range of countries. You can then deselect the countries you may want to exclude.

Look how I added all Europe, excluded some countries and added Australia to my carrier rule:

  • Weight ranges

For example, if you want to use only this carrier for shipments up to 2 kg:

Note: Please remember that you can change your weight preferences from My Profile > Preferences > General Preferences.

This value does not refers to the Volume.

  • Order value

You can then decide to validate the carrier rule only for orders with an order value within 50 and 250, for example:

Note: Please remember that you can change your currency preferences from My Profile > Preferences > General Preferences.

  • Amount paid by the client for the shipment

For example, if you want to use an economic carrier for orders with free shipping:

  • Shipping option contains

If you want to use this rule only for specific services of the carrier, like Express for FedeEx, write down the service that the customer selected at the checkout.

-

  • Suppliers

Suppliers is only available with a dropshipping module. Here, you'll need to add the name of the suppliers you'd like to include.

2. Special Instructions 📃

It's important to keep in mind that once the rule is set, only the carrier that presents those conditions in one of his rules will be shown.

📌 g.e. if you set a rule for DHL Express that is valid only for orders with an order value from 0 to 50 and the total amount is 60, DHL Express won't be shown in the comparison of rates.

  • How to add a Carrier Rule to favorites

If you click on the star, you'll add your carrier rule to your favorites. This means that if an order is compatible with that carrier rule, any other carrier won't be shown.
