 1. Before you start

Before connecting Poste Italiane InVio System to ShippyPro, make sure you have:

  • An active Poste Italiane Invio System contract with an autoproduction range for tracking codes. Your Poste Italiane sales contact provides your Station Code (ID5), Customer Identification Code, Sender Address Code and Branch Code.
  • FTP or SFTP access provided by Poste Italiane (host, port, username, password). The FTP account must have a writable Send folder: ShippyPro uploads the closeout file there.
  • Shipments within Italy only: both sender and receiver must be in Italy. International shipments are not supported.

 4. Dynamic Multiparcel

With Dynamic Multiparcel you create one parcel per Ship call and add the next parcels to the same shipment later, until the closeout.

[embed: node/fd533d39-46a0]
  • First parcel → master shipment. ShippyPro takes a new serial number from your autoproduction range and builds the master tracking code: service code + station code + 6-digit serial.
  • Each next parcel → joins the master. It gets its own tracking code, derived from the master code. Its label shows n/N, where n is the parcel number.
  • Closeout → sent to Poste. ShippyPro writes one record per parcel to the closeout file. The Numero Colli (number of parcels) field holds the total parcel count of the whole group.

4.1 Creating a Dynamic Multiparcel shipment

Step 1 – Create the first parcel

Send a Ship request with IsDynamicMultiparcel: true and one parcel. ShippyPro opens the master shipment and returns the master tracking code and the first label.

Step 2 – Add the next parcels

Send a new Ship request with IsDynamicMultiparcel: true for each additional parcel. Each parcel joins the open master shipment and gets its own tracking code and an n/N label.

For the rules on which parcels can join the same master shipment, see the ShippyPro API documentation – Ship.

Step 3 – Close out

When all parcels are created, run the closeout (CloseShipments). Only then does Poste Italiane receive the shipment. See section 4.2.

4.2 Closeout

The closeout is mandatory for every shipment, Standard or Dynamic: it is the only way your shipments reach Poste Italiane.

For details on how the closeout handles Dynamic Multiparcel shipments, see the ShippyPro API documentation – Ship.

For a Dynamic Multiparcel shipment, every parcel of the group is included, and Numero Colli shows the total number of parcels in the group.

Tip: Create all parcels of a group before you run the closeout.

Important: To delete a parcel, use the Void API before running the closeout, as described in the ShippyPro API documentation. After the closeout, parcels can no longer be deleted.

 5. Additional options and limitations

Test Mode

Warning: Poste Italiane Invio System has no real test mode. Checking Test only skips the FTP credentials check when you save the configuration. Labels and tracking codes are still taken from your real autoproduction range.

6. Troubleshooting & errors

Error

Cause

Solution

Unable to upload the closeout file to the Poste Italiane FTP server. The FTP account must have a writable "Send" folder.

The closeout file could not be uploaded. Every order in that closeout fails.

Check with Poste Italiane that the Send folder exists and is writable, then run the closeout again.

Credentials error when saving the configuration

ShippyPro could not log in to the FTP server.

Check FTP Host, FTP Port, FTP Username and FTP Password. For SFTP, add sftp:// before the host.

Shipment not received by Poste Italiane

The closeout has not been run, or it failed.

Run the closeout and check that it completes without errors.

Internal Server Error

A temporary problem on the carrier or ShippyPro side.

Wait a few minutes and try again. If it persists, contact ShippyPro Support.

7. FAQ

When should I use Dynamic Multiparcel instead of Standard Multiparcel? Use Dynamic Multiparcel when you don't know the final number of parcels when you create the first label, for example when an order is packed in several steps. If you know all parcels upfront, Standard Multiparcel is simpler.

When does Poste Italiane receive my shipment? Only after the closeout file is uploaded to the FTP server. Until then, Poste has no data about your parcels.

Can I cancel or edit a parcel after creating it? You can delete a parcel with the Void API, but only before the closeout. Editing a parcel is not available.

Can I test Dynamic Multiparcel without real tracking codes? No. There is no sandbox for this carrier. The Test option only skips the FTP credentials check.

Can I ship abroad with this carrier? No. Poste Italiane InVio System supports shipments from Italy to Italy only.

Can I track the parcels? Yes. Tracking is available for every parcel through ShippyPro tracking.
